Wizard of Earthsea

Wizard of Earthsea

By Ursula K. Le Guin

In Earthsea, a group of hundreds of islands, wizards are common. Almost every island has at least one, and they can cure illnesses, summon animals, and change the weather. Ged was a wizard, and eventually he became the greatest sorcerer in all of Earthsea. But when he was still a prentice learning the art of wizardry, he said an ancient spell and summoned a spirit from the dead, accidentally releasing an evil shadow in the process. To correct his mistake and capture the shadow, he had to journey across Earthsea, meeting many dangers. Will Ged find the shadow? I liked this book because it was exciting, and the author's writing style was great!

Invisible Emmie

Invisible Emmie

By Terri Libenson

Invisible Emmie is a book about a girl that really wants to be like THE girl. At school, she feels like she's invisible and wants her crush, Tyler Ross to notice her. When it's lunchtime and Emmie and her BFF, Bri, they both write gushy-mushy love letters about their crushes. After lunch, Emmie rushes out and accidentally drops her note. A guy named Joe picks it up and shows everyone that Emmie knows the note. When Emmie finds out that the note is spreading fast like wildfire, she gets more 'anti-social' and she's starting to get quieter. Emmie then starts to get emotional and cries in the bathroom. A really popular girl notices Emmie and starts to 'save' her from her misery. When Emmie starts to boost herself up and get more sociable, she forgets about the popular girl (Katie). I want to stop it here because I want you to experience this story, and this will be recommended to those who always felt invisible and insecure. Enjoy the book!

Stacey's Choice (Baby-Sitters Club, 58)

By Ann M. Martin

Stacey is torn! Ever since her parents divorced, Stacey has to constantly had to choose between her parents. So, when both her parents need her very badly, Stacey doesn't want to have to choose between her parents. AGAIN. What is she going to do? I loved this book! It was all about family, babysitting, and friendship. In this story, the reader gets to see Stacey in a new light. In this book she is no longer the sophisticated, NYC girl, instead she's a mature, bright, and caring girl who wants to please both her mom and her dad. I really liked this book because it was funny and fun to read. I suggest if you like babysitting, reading about families, and friendship! Happy reading!

Jessi and the Awful Secret (Baby-Sitters Club, No. 61)

Jessi and the Awful Secret (Baby-Sitters Club, No. 61)

By Ann M. Martin

Jessi loves ballet and she loves kids! So, when she is asked to help out with a class for children underprivileged to learn ballet, Jessi is all for it. She figures it is a way to combine her two interests plus maybe get to become friends with some of her ballet classmates. And she does, but Jessi learns a secret about one of the girls, Mary. Mary is going something that could hurt herself and maybe even kill her. Jessi is torn. If tells someone about Mary's condition, she could lose Mary as a friend. But if Jessi lets it go, Mary could die. What will Jessi do? Unlike most BSC books, I wouldn't say the story ends well. It's bittersweet. In the end, things turn out alright, but not perfect. The author writes this book masterfully. She lets the reader see the gradual effects of anorexia, how is starts out so subtle but after a while it begins to take its toll on someone's health and happiness. I thought this book was good. Although sad, I believe every kid should read this. I suggest if you like babysitting, friendship, ballet, and being a true friend.
